Your questions about OTCValue

From your first OTC contract to monitoring a portfolio: practical answers for businesses, treasury teams and risk managers.

Discover OTCValue

Who is OTCValue for?

OTCValue helps businesses, treasurers and risk managers estimate the value of their financial contracts and monitor portfolio performance and risk.

Enter your contract terms and request a valuation. You can then view the estimated value, available risk measures and the data and assumptions behind the calculation.

How can I compare a valuation with my bank's figure?

OTCValue provides a valuation you can compare with your bank's. For a meaningful comparison, use the same contract terms, valuation date and currency.

Market data and assumptions may differ from your bank's. Some calculations may use approximate market references, known as proxies, or internal assumptions. The valuation report helps you understand the inputs used and possible reasons for differences.

Which financial instruments are available?

OTCValue supports a range of foreign exchange, commodity and interest rate contracts, including forwards, swaps and options. You can also record trades in supported listed instruments.

Check the instrument catalogue to see whether your contract is supported. Availability depends on its specific terms and the market data needed to value it.

Do I need an account, and is there a free plan?

Yes. You need to create a free account to record and value your contracts. A free plan with no time limit lets you get started with a limited set of features and a daily valuation allowance.

You can compare the available plans in your account and change plans as your needs evolve.

Does OTCValue execute trades or manage payments?

No. OTCValue calculates valuations and helps you monitor your portfolios. It does not place trades or make payments.

A calculated value is not an offer to buy or sell. Similarly, a realized result does not confirm that money has been paid or received.

Getting started

How do I build a portfolio of contracts and trades?

Create a portfolio to group your contracts and trades, then add the instruments you want to track. Choose the currency in which you want to see the portfolio totals.

Enter the information requested for each instrument, save it and request a valuation. The results show the estimated value and available risk measures.

Can I import positions or commodity prices?

You can import commodity prices from a file. Contracts and trades are currently entered directly in the application; importing positions from a file is not yet available.

For prices, choose a supported file format, upload your file and review the preview before confirming the import. You can save the import settings for future files of the same format.

Can my team work together in OTCValue?

Yes. OTCValue lets people within a business or organization share portfolios and work together.

You can set up a shared workspace, invite colleagues and decide who can view results or edit contracts. Everyone uses their own account. The collaboration features available depend on your plan.

Does the free plan limit the number of valuations?

Yes. The free plan includes a daily valuation allowance. You can add OTC contracts or trades in listed instruments to your portfolios, then request their value, profit and loss (P&L), and available risk measures.

Once the allowance is used up, new valuation requests are no longer accepted. The allowance renews each day, and your previously calculated results remain available to view.

Understand your results

How do I read my valuation results?

The net present value (NPV) is the calculated present value of a contract. Profit and loss (P&L) is split between the unrealized result, which can still change, and the realized result from amounts that have been finalized.

Total P&L is the sum of realized and unrealized P&L. Depending on the instrument, additional measures such as delta show how the value may react to changes in market prices, volatility or interest rates.

Can I check how OTCValue valued my positions?

Yes. For each valued position, you can view a report detailing the calculation and the data used: prices, observation dates, parameters and any approximations.

This helps you understand the result, check the assumptions and identify older data or approximate market references. The calculation date and the dates of the underlying market data may differ.

How can I use my own commodity prices?

You can enter your prices or import them from a file, for example to use your own purchase, sale or delivery prices.

Specify the commodity, currency, unit and price dates, then select this quote for compatible contracts. You can check the prices actually used in the valuation report.

Why is a valuation missing or out of date?

A price or another input needed for the calculation may be missing. An existing valuation can also become out of date when you change a contract, choose another date or when market data changes.

Read the message shown for the position and its valuation details to understand what is missing. Requesting a valuation starts a new calculation; refreshing the display only reloads results that already exist.

What happens when a contract reaches maturity?

The final calculation uses the prices or rates specified in the contract at the required dates. A result can only become final once the necessary observations are available and confirmed.

Depending on the contract, this can happen in stages or at a single maturity date. An estimated price cannot replace an exact observation required by the contract. Finalizing a result does not record a payment.

Monitor your portfolio and get help

Can my positions be revalued automatically?

When your plan includes it, OTCValue can automatically revalue your open positions as market data changes, even when you are not signed in.

You can view the latest results in your portfolios.

Can I track my portfolios over time and export results?

Yes. You can view the available valuation history for your positions. Depending on your plan and access rights, reports also help you compare dates and track changes, transactions and upcoming maturities.

Choose a portfolio and the period you want to examine, then use the report's export option. The export reflects your selection and the history actually available.

How can I get help or request a new instrument?

Write to contact@otcvalue.com or use the contact form. Support is provided in French and English on working days in France.

For a calculation issue, include the valuation date and the message displayed. For a new instrument, describe its main terms so we can assess the request. No fixed response or resolution time, or uptime percentage, is guaranteed. Planned maintenance is announced in advance whenever possible.
